FPL managers were graced with a high-scoring start to the 2023-24 campaign last weekend, as several popular picks delivered the goods in GW1.

Top captain Erling Haaland inevitably returned with a brace against , and Bukayo Saka picked up his first double-digit haul of the season thanks to a stunning winner against . 

Meanwhile, affordable preseason favourites Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Joao Pedro were on the scoresheet, and Newcastle strikers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson netted in the Magpies' 5-1 thrashing over .

Perhaps the biggest shock of the week in FPL was the absence of defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who had started the last 73 matches for Arsenal before his benching against Forest, and now managers are fretting over his long-term place in the Gunners' XI.

So with GW2 just around the corner, Mail Sport has reviewed the thrills and spills of GW1 and given five top tips ahead of Friday's FPL deadline.

Here are Mail Sport's biggest takeaways from GW1:
